11.2 Arbitrary Period. Even and Odd Functions. Half-Range Expansions

이제 임의의 주기로 주어졌을 때 Fourier series를 나타내는 방법을 배우도록 하자. 기존의 Fourier Series, trigonometric series가
\[ f(x) = a_0 + \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} (a_ncosnx + b_nsinnx) \]
에서 주기 p=2L을 만족하기 위해 \(cosnx -> cos\frac{n\pi}{L}x \), \(sinnx -> sin\frac{n\pi}{L}x \) 로 바뀐다.
Even & Odd function 일 때, 이 series가 어떻게 바뀌는지 알아보자.
\[ f(x) = a_0 + \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} (a_n cos\frac{n\pi}{L}x + b_n sin\frac{n\pi}{L}x ) \]
만약, f(x)가 even function이면, f(-x)=f(x)를 만족할 것이고, 이는 \(b_n = \frac{1}{L} \int_{-L}^{L}f(x)sin\frac{n\pi}{L}x\) 에서 우함수 x 기함수 = 기함수 즉, 원점 대칭 함수이므로 \(b_n\)은 0이다. \(a_0 = \frac{1}{L} \int_{0}^{L} f(x)dx\)이고, \(a_n = \frac{2}{L} \int_{0}^{L} f(x)cos\frac{n\pi}{L}x\) 이다. 즉, f(x)가 even function에 대해서는
\[ f(x) = a_0 + \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} (a_n cos\frac{n\pi}{L}x ) \]
만약, f(x)가 odd function이면, f(-x)=-f(x)를 만족할 것이고, 이는 마찬가지 계산으로 \(a_0\)과 \(a_n\) 모두 0이고, \(b_n = \frac{2}{L} \int_{0}^{L}f(x) sin\frac{n\pi}{L}x\) 이다. 즉, f(x)가 odd function에 대해서는
\[ f(x) = \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} (b_n sin\frac{n\pi}{L}x ) \]
Theorem 1을 소개하고자 한다. 이는 coefficient들을 합할 수 있다는 의미로, 우리가 흔히 아는 다항식에서의 계수끼리 더할 수 있다 이런 의미로 가볍게 이해하면 된다.
왜 우리가 even, odd function에 대해서 다루었나? 그 이유는 Half-Range Expansion에 대한 것 때문이다. 함수가 0~L까지만 주어졌을 때, 이 함수가 even이냐, odd이냐에 따라 f(x)의 결과가 달라지기 때문이다. Example로 이해를 더 높여보자.
이렇게 Half-Range 경우 even, odd 나눠서 f(x)를 구해야 한다.
